The Brazos Lofts embodies the definition of loft more than any other Downtown Austin property. Some consider downtown Austin’s Brazos Lofts the only ‘real’ warehouse conversion in Austin. From both the inside and outside it feels that way. Each unit is separated by a brick wall. I’m not sure if the bricks used on those party walls are original to the building, but they are a good match and are aged appropriately. Most of the units have narrow-plank hardwood floors.True to its character, the Brazos Lofts is only three stories (two stories in most of the building) and houses only 39 condos. Along East 5th Street are a row of condos that are, in addition to being livable, zoned for light office, gallery, and salon space. The Sutton Company completed the conversion in early 1999. Later that year they would also complete the conversion of the Avenue Lofts.
