The Statesman reports that more glass panels fell from downtown Austin’s W Hotel. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. This is the second incident of falling glass panels this month. In the photo below, it appears there are panels missing from three floors.

Last year we discovered a time lapse of downtown Austin’s W Hotel construction. We just got a note from its creator Jose Lozano that it is finished. This is really cool. The W should consider how to incorporate this into their marketing.

Members of the DANA were provided with a backstage pass to downtown Austin’s W Hotel Residences. We’ve always admired the sleek monolithic design of the building, and even through the construction dust you can envision the interior will make a similar impact.

The contractor is expected to hand the keys over to the hotel portion in September/October. The doors won’t be open, but that should be the time when the hotel can begin to furnish everything. The Austin City Limits venue and residential condos will be ready in Q1 of 2011.
The most significant milestone will be the removal of the street barriers mid-summer! This is great news for any resident or retailer in the 2nd Street District.

Austin’s W Hotel’s monolithic gray & glass facade is arguably the sleekest and sexiest of the luxury bunch. DAB headed to the W Austin’s “topping off” party last night with hopes of snapping some view photos. Unfortunately, by the time the fire marshal allowed guests into the structure the sun had already set. Apologies for the dark photos, but you can still get a sense for the night time views from the 31st floor, including the new illumination on the Austonian. A few other downtown pics included from earlier in the day.
