Rainey Street’s Hotel Van Zandt Begins Site Work

Rainey Street’s Hotel Van Zandt Begins Site Work

It’s for real this time.  Planned in 2006 as a sister development to the Shore Condos, which shares the southern part of the site, the Hotel Van Zandt was originally going to be a $100 million, 29-story hotel and condo tower.  The scope of the development was reduced to 16 stories and will include just the hotel.

JMI, the developer of the hotel, told the ABJ in March that June was their target month to break ground.  Bulldozers began clearing the site this morning.

Here are target dates for the construction:

  • Start date: July 2, 2013
  • Subterranean excavation now through November 2013
  • Install tower crane in October of 2013
  • Concrete structural frame of hotel: Up to ground level in January 2014
  • Pool deck level poured in March 2014
  • Building tops out at level 16 in July 2014
  • Construction Completion in March 2015

  1. Great information thank you for the updates. It is pretty useful for people following the new construction on downtown

  2. I like how the hotel looks like from the outside, probably inside this hotel is as nice as it looks.

  3. Riverside Resident says

Good to see this project is breaking ground. Coming out of the financial crisis, I understand why condo projects would get cancelled but now four-five years out with with the supply of new condos running out it seems short sighted to not have stuck with the original plan to include condos. By the time this building is finished only the Austonina with have any vacant units available for sale and possibly not there as well. Are there any condo projects on the drawing boards beside the Waller Creek Project which is still very speculative. By my count Seaholm, Greenwater, Zaza and all project underway only have apartments….

  5. Thanks for the info Jude! Hey……do you know what hotel is going on SOCO & Monroe (where the food trucks were)? Also, speaking of Rainey St……My Granny’s Kitchen is FANTASTIC food!!!!! She put all of her retirement money in it. She is an amazing cook! 🙂
