Proving once and for all that it’s OK (really) to live in South Austin and embrace downtown Austin urbanism… Michael Barnes, the Statesman’s social columnist, relays some quick math on the downtown Austin great streets program.
“Imagine all the shade trees, smooth, wide walkways and space for sidewalk businesses, especially cafes”
Thanks to DANA’s Greg Anderson for the heads up!

Yeah that would be nice. Is he aware that this program extends outside of downtown also? Perhaps he could start encouraging his neighbors to endorse it for South Austin. I live in South Austin, but could easily walk into downtown. If there were sidewalks.
Getting to downtown is still quite a hassle by foot or by bus (which is the other reason the majority of people are on the sidewalk). This is a great city-wide initiative, to complete sidewalks and really make it walkable.
