Capital Metro is proposing to eliminate the Downtown Dillo routes beginning October 5, 2009 (last day of service would be end of day Friday, October 2nd). Capital Metro Planning Staff will be available to speak directly with citizens regarding route or schedule issues. Citizens are encouraged to attend any of the following meetings or to contact Capital Metro Planning by e-mail or by calling 474-1200. The public may also call 385-0190 with comments. Persons with hearing impairments may call the TDD line at 385-5872. A sign language interpreter for persons with hearing impairments will be provided at the public hearing. ”

“In the public mind, convenience is a trade-off for price, and price is traded off for convenience. Inconvenience connotes cheap, while convenience connotes pricey. This is why restaurant valets can get away with charging $20 to park your Honda on the street and why “convenience” stores can charge $3 for a can of condensed chicken noodle soup.”
This is a quote I found from an unrelated article, but it underscores my belief that CapMetro can increase the price of the Dillo substantially. Not that I want to pay more, but I would rather pay more than have the entire system scrapped.
I spoke at the hearing and requested that they continue the Dillo and suggested that the problems resulted from a route that is too limited. East/West route should go from Chicon in East Austin to the W 6th street u-turn just before you reach Mopac. North/South route should go deeper into SoCo to Live Oak.
A few of my comments made it to the nightly news, but the production editing would seem to suggest I was negative on the Dillo.
