Bats & Beers

bats and beers at the shore condos

The entrepreneurial spirit is alive in downtown Austin’s Shore Condos. Resident Nate Taylor and Matt Abendschein have turned their passion for ez-living, good beer, and good views into an event known simply as “Bats & Beer”.

Bats & Beers is a monthly event showcasing Austin craft brewers, and is an opportunity to gather with good people and explore the craft beer industry in Austin.  Set on a pool deck overlooking Lady Bird Lake and Downtown Austin, Bats & Beers aims to connect brew masters, chefs and engaged people of Austin to explore creations and collaborations.

I like this genre of curated entertainment/leisure/dining – one of the attendees compared it to Dai Due, but for beer.  Since I would typically reach for the coldest Coors Light or Shiner Bock available, it’s events like these where I learn to appreciate good craft brews.

This month featured Jeffrey Stuffings, owner/brewer of Jester King Craft Brewery, offered tastings of “Drink’in The Sunbelt” (hoppy white beer), Wytchmaker (rye India pale ale), and Black Metal (imperial stout).  Next month: Austin Beerworks.

Delayed Rainey Street Hotel Plans Finalized

dab | July 29, 2011 |

hotel-van-zandt

Hotel Van Zandt, proposed initially in parallel to The Shore Condos in Downtown Austin’s Rainey Street District in 2008, is still kicking.

Downtown Austin Blog reported in March that plans had been filed for the hotel, though it was unclear what scope the project had taken on. Today I confirmed the project will be 16 stories, about 180 feet, and about 320 units, plus 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,000-square-feet of resturant office.

There will be about 159 [Read more…] about Delayed Rainey Street Hotel Plans Finalized

Pay By Donation Yoga in Rainey Street

AG | June 19, 2011 |

Be Yoga just opened in the Rainey Street District!

Located in the Windsor (née Legacy on the Lake), Be Yoga is a no-frills studio, about 1,000 square feet, just a stone’s throw from the lake and across from the Milago condos.

Perhaps more intriguing than it’s location is the fact that it’s a [Read more…] about Pay By Donation Yoga in Rainey Street

Downtown Austin Apartment High Rise To Get A Name Change

Jude Galligan | April 4, 2011 |

windsor-on-the-lake

Downtown Austin Blog has learned that the Legacy On The Lake apartment high rise will undergo rebranding as “Windsor On The Lake”, or to something similar.  Windsor Communities has purchased a controlling interest in the Rainey Street tower from Legacy Partners, and within the next couple of weeks we should expect to see new signage. Completed in 2008, Legacy On The Lake is a 187 unit LEED certified building.

Another Rainey Street Bar Pops Up – AGORA

1/2/2013: We just heard a rumor from a reliable source that Agora is closed for good and owners are planning to sell.  We’ll continue to update as we have new information.

A new bar/lounge (guess) called “Agora” is readying their new space at 84 East Avenue in Downtown Austin’s Rainey Street neighborhood.  This is just few steps down from East Avenue Lounge (aka Rainey Manor). Picture of Agora and updated Rainey Street Map after the jump.

I also noticed some groundwork being done at [Read more…] about Another Rainey Street Bar Pops Up – AGORA
