“Welcome” to the Police State of 6ixth

Fred Schmidt | April 9, 2011 |

It’s a warm and breezy Saturday night in Austin on Texas Relays Weekend. We did up a special store window at Wild About Music in Bob Marley + hip hop theme to welcome our 40,000-ish athletes, families and guests to town like every year. Daytime business was great, both Friday and today. But by 6pm things died off to nothingness and never revived by the time we normally close at 9pm. Totally deadsville. Absolutely not the norm for a weekend evening in Spring.  So we hit the street to see wazzup. [Read more…] about “Welcome” to the Police State of 6ixth

waller creek tunnel ground breaking ceremony

Just got back from the ground breaking ceremony for Downtown Austin’s Waller Creek Tunnel project.  Not long ago Austin City Council officially adopted the Waller Creek District Master Plan (link).  This groundbreaking is milestone in downtown Austin’s revitalization.  The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2014, at which point 28 acres of downtown land [Read more…] about Waller Creek Groundbreaking Ceremony

Downtown Austin Apartment High Rise To Get A Name Change

Jude Galligan | April 4, 2011 |

windsor-on-the-lake

Downtown Austin Blog has learned that the Legacy On The Lake apartment high rise will undergo rebranding as “Windsor On The Lake”, or to something similar.  Windsor Communities has purchased a controlling interest in the Rainey Street tower from Legacy Partners, and within the next couple of weeks we should expect to see new signage. Completed in 2008, Legacy On The Lake is a 187 unit LEED certified building.

We’ve got some momentum on this: improving last-mile and recreational transit by installing bike share hubs throughout Austin’s urban core.   DAB readers know this is something I’ve been passionate about for years.  The idea has the attention of multiple Austin City Council members.  Take five seconds and **VOTE NOW**!

Seaholm Website Updated With New Renderings

Update: Seaholm will have condos for sale

The latest aerial perspective rendering of Downtown Austin’s Seaholm redevelopment hints at a 27 story building.  Admittedly, this has been off my radar for a little while. The project design has gone through multiple iterations but is still expected to host residential condos for sale in addition to a hotel and retail.  I’m pretty enamored with the latest design.  It shows a variety of uses, building heights, and a great park-like lawn.   [Read more…] about Seaholm Website Updated With New Renderings

Where Are You Going?

Jude Galligan | March 30, 2011 |

austin rail

In the latest draft of possible urban- and light-rail alignments, we generally see the same routes we’ve been looking at for the past year.  Alas, it’s important to understand that rail will not simply be delivered, it will evolve over decades to serve more and more people.  The Statesman has a nice graphic that shows the heart of the system being envisioned. ABJ Profiles Jude Galligan

Jude Galligan | March 25, 2011 |

Thanks to the ABJ’s Jacob Dirr for considering me for this week’s “Journal Profile.”  It’s a light hearted Q&A, and we really didn’t get into real estate. Instead, you’ll learn a few things about me, such as my 2001 foray into producing a compilation album for upcoming Austin musicians. [Read more…] about ABJ Profiles Jude Galligan

Another Rainey Street Bar Pops Up – AGORA

1/2/2013: We just heard a rumor from a reliable source that Agora is closed for good and owners are planning to sell.  We’ll continue to update as we have new information.

A new bar/lounge (guess) called “Agora” is readying their new space at 84 East Avenue in Downtown Austin’s Rainey Street neighborhood.  This is just few steps down from East Avenue Lounge (aka Rainey Manor). Picture of Agora and updated Rainey Street Map after the jump.

I also noticed some groundwork being done at [Read more…] about Another Rainey Street Bar Pops Up – AGORA
