Downtown Austin Neighborhood Association – Urban Core Happy Hour Tonight (Thursday)

AG | October 13, 2011 |

Tonight!  Come to Clive Bar in the Rainey Street District to enjoy a keg of beer and some sushi (compliments of How Do You Roll?) for the October Urban Core Happy Hour.  It’s gonna be a great night to be outside on the patio, and a good chance to see what all the “Rainey Street” fuss is about.  The event is TONIGHT from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Clive (609 Davis Street).

A Note: At Urban Core Happy Hours DANA Members get in free, however non-members will be asked to pay $5 or bring 3 cans of food. (The canned food will be donated to Caritas.) Entry into event includes food and drink tickets.  Non-members will also have the opportunity to sign up to become a DANA Member on the spot and get in free to this and all Urban Core Happy Hours for the next year.

If you’re not a DANA Member and would like to be, you can sign up at the Urban Core Happy Hour, or you can click here to be directed to our Membership page to join now.

See you tonight!

It seems that having Armbrust & Brown attorney Richard Suttle as the representative of the hotel developers I wrote about Monday may be a little too hot for some council members to handle.

On Tuesday morning, Council Members Bill Spelman, Sheryl Cole and Laura Morrison seemed skeptical that his clients need almost $4 million in city breaks to help to build a hotel downtown.

Students of city politics should note that the power base at city council has now shifted from Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez and Chris Riley — who are losing defeated incumbent Randi Shade — to the other council members, who are gaining Kathie Tovo next month.

Upzoning Sought And Supported On W 7th Street

Jude Galligan | June 16, 2011 |

Looks like an upzoning request for a half-block of W 7th Street wedged between West 6th Street and Original Austin was semi-successful.

701 and 711 W 7th Street in downtown Austin were seeking an upzoning to CBD.   701 W 7th is zoned “GR – general retail” and 711 W 7th is zoned “GO – general office”.  Both zoning definitions cap building height at 60 feet. [Read more…] about Upzoning Sought And Supported On W 7th Street

Vote For Austin Bike Share

Jude Galligan | April 1, 2011 |

minneapolis bike share

We’ve got some momentum on this: improving last-mile and recreational transit by installing bike share hubs throughout Austin’s urban core.   DAB readers know this is something I’ve been passionate about for years.  The idea has the attention of multiple Austin City Council members.  Take five seconds and **VOTE NOW**!
